Time to Replace Your Headlight Bulbs?

Most of us treat headlight bulbs just like the lamp in the front hall – when the bulb burns out, it’s time to replace it.

Truck headlights from Carlson Truck OutfittersAutomotive lights, however, don’t work like that.  Before an actual burnout occurs, headlight bulbs will begin to wear out, which means that they will produce less light and your night-time visibility will be compromised.

Those of us who live in Manitoba know that not every highway has streetlamps, and there’s plenty of wildlife out there after dark.  In short, we need to be as safe as possible, and seeing well at night requires that our headlights produce not only enough light to see by, but also the right type of light.

Types of Lights
Most vehicles use a standard halogen light bulb – it’s located in a plastic housing, and is easily replaced from the back side.  Newer vehicles might use High Intensity Discharge lights, HID for short.  In some cases, you can use HID bulbs as an upgrade, but you need to ensure that your truck’s wiring can handle the increased current draw.

Not All Bulbs are Equal
Like anything, with automotive lighting you tend to get what you pay for.  High quality, brand name bulbs will be brighter, produce a more even light, and last longer than bargain brands.

In addition to making sure your bulbs are good, you need to check your lenses (dirty, damaged or “fogged” lenses will reduce the total light output of your headlights).  It’s also imperative that you check the aim of your lights – incorrectly aimed lights can reduce visibility and actually create a road hazard by blinding other drivers.

Protecting Your Truck’s Resale Value

A commonly held belief in the used vehicle industry is that trucks tend to hold their value.

When compared to cars, this is true.  But what makes on pickup truck worth more than another on the resale market?  Regardless of make, model or factory options, trucks that have been taken care of are far more valuable than those that haven’t.

To preserve its value, maintain your truck. Change the oil, lubricate the chassis and wash it regularly; and certainly, protect it with the right accessories.

For even a casually worked truck, bed protection is a must. Spray in types like Full Metal Jacket polyurea bedliners can protect the inside of the box, and look so good they enhance the appeal of the truck.

Protection for the bed rails is essential, as are mudflaps.  Both prevent damage your trucks paint, which in turn protects your truck.  A hard or soft bed cover from industry innovators like Truxedo, Bak Flip, or Retrax keeps the elements out and your tools and valuables in the bed of your truck, where they belong.  A good cargo tie-down system, like the polished stainless steps and boxrails package from U-Guard adds beauty to your pickup while keeping your cargo from sliding around and inflicting damage.

To protect the investment you’ve made in your truck, visit Carlson Truck Accessories.  We have the right accessories to add appeal to your truck, increasing its resale value and making it easier to sell when the time comes, as well as adding to your enjoyment of the time that you have it.

Your truck will look and serve you better, which might just make it harder for you to part with it.
